High Chief Dr. Kemdi Chino Opara, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) flagbearer for the upcoming Imo State gubernatorial election, made a passionate call to the people of Imo State, particularly those in the Owerri Zone, during his recent appearance on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) “60 Minutes Live” program.
Dr. Opara’s message centered on the urgent need for visionary leadership and good governance in Imo State, which he believes has been lacking in recent years. He lamented the decline in government’s sense of duty, poor governance, and leadership failures that have deprived the people of Imo of the benefits of democracy.
During the program, Dr. Opara highlighted the pressing issues facing Imo State, including mass poverty, rising insecurity, youth unemployment, and economic hardship. He emphasized that bringing about positive change in leadership is crucial to address these challenges effectively.
Dr. Kemdi pledged to prioritize security, education, healthcare, infrastructure development, and the economy if elected as the Governor of Imo State. His vision includes compensation for the families of victims of insecurity, industrializing agriculture to create employment opportunities, supporting youth through skills acquisition and funding, and ensuring access to quality education.
Furthermore, he promised to conduct local government elections within six months of taking office, grant full autonomy to council areas, and fulfill the State’s obligations to 2018 Council Chairmen and Councillors.
Dr. Opara also expressed his commitment to youth and women empowerment, quality road networks, social amenities, and completing and equipping the 27 General Hospitals established during the tenure of former Governor Rochas Okorocha. He plans to establish Mother and Child Care hospitals in every Local Government area to ensure accessible and affordable healthcare for women and newborns.
In addition to his appearance on NTA, Dr. Kemdi Chino Opara attended the 5th-anniversary celebration of the Egbu Declaration held at the All Saints Cathedral in Egbu, Owerri North LGA. There, he voiced his strong opposition to the marginalization of Owerri zone and affirmed his solidarity with their demand to produce the next Governor of Imo State, in line with the 1991 Charter of Equity.
Dr. Opara urged the people of Owerri zone and Imo State as a whole to objectively assess the qualifications and leadership capacity of candidates from the zone, including himself, as they prepare to cast their votes in the upcoming election.
His presence at the event signified a renewed hope for Owerri zone’s aspirations to occupy Douglas House come January 15, 2024.
