Photos: Mema Tribute Foundation Gives Back To The People Of Ohohia In Mbieri

Mema Tribute Foundation has given back to the Men and Women of Obiakabo, Ohohia, Mbieri in Mbaitolu LGA of Imo State through sensitization on Hypertension, check ups and giving of medications, food and gifts.

Mema which stands for ‘Me and My Mother’ Tribute Foundation believes that every life is worth saving irrespective of their societal class and was founded in honour of three important people in their lives who died as a result of negligence in health care system in Nigeria.

Speaking to the Founder, Dr Chidinma Onweni, a Physician in United States of America, She said the Foundation is paying tribute to his late Father, Chief Benjamin Onweni, Late Brother, Anayochukwu Onweni and Late God Mother, Lady Ethel Iheme who were the great people on whose shoulders she is standing on today.

‘My Father, Brother and God Mother paved the way for me to be whom I am today but unfortunately, they died due to negligence in the health care system in Nigeria”.

Further speaking, Dr Chidinma said Hypertension is a silent killer because we do not see the damages done on our bodies physically.

“Some people feel they are healthy and do not have high blood pressure until they sleep and do not wake up or wakes up with stroke and heart diseases”.

Hypertension is reportedly responsible for an estimated 45% and 51% of deaths caused by heart diseases and stroke respectively around the world.

The Sisters of the Founder, Barr Stephanie Ngozi Onweni – Uwandu and Mrs Chinyere Nina Onweni Agwunobi also expressed their joy over the initiative.

Barr Ngozi said “We are trying to help those who are in medical need and cannot afford a regular checkup”.

“Every life is worth saving irrespective of their societal class”, Mrs Chinyere added.

Speaking to the beneficiaries, they expressed joy over the sensitization and pledged to eat healthy and observe the necessary hypertension guidelines.

Hon. Bobby Michaels, Special Adviser to Imo State Government on Entertainment who was present at the event commended the Onweni sisters on the amazing work they are doing through the Foundation and also urged diasporans to support the ideals of the shared prosperity government of Sen Hope Uzodinma which is about giving back to the society.
