… visits Eziama Ubulu Community
A group, South East Coronavirus Intervention Network (SCIN) has urged community leaders to support efforts by the government to combat the dreaded Coronavirus pandemic through massive awareness campaign and advocacy.
This was as the group led by the Coordinator, Nze Meekam Mgbenwu visited and interacted with the people of Eziama Ubulu Autonomous Community in Oru-West Council Area of Imo State, at their Eze’s palace, yesterday.
Speaking at the visit, Mr. Collins Osuji, SCIN Media Analyst, who represented the Coordinator, said that one of the major challenges inhibiting the fight against the pandemic in the state and South East in general was nonchalant attitude of the people towards the virus.
He said the situation was worsened by lack of awareness and none compliance by the people to the preventive measures as being propagated by the government and other concerned agencies and organizations.
Adding their voices, Miss Chioma Egbuagha, Imo State SCIN Team Lead and Mrs. Juliet Oguekusi, Imo SCIN Health Analyst further enlightened the people on possible ways to stay Covid-19 free.
They also enjoined the people to deepen the awareness campaign by ensuring that all members of the community are knowledgeable of the virus and are committed to protecting themselves from the pandemic.
Responding, the Traditional Ruler of Ubulu Community, HRH Eze Victor Okeukwu, (Igwe III) applauded SCIN for its proactive steps at ensuring that the scourge of Covid-19 disease is contended.
He also promised to facilitate the awareness campaign in the community and appealed to his people to take necessary precautions, regarding the virus for their general good.
Also, Members of the Eze’s cabinet and other chieftains of the community including the Prime Minister, Ichie Norbert Obinozie, Ichie Gregory Orji, Ichie Alphonsius Onuigwe and Ichie Stephen Adimike showered encomiums of SCIN and pledged to take the message to their respective families and villages.
Highlights of the event was the demonstrations by the Imo SCIN Data Analyst, Miss Uju Egbuagha on the seven hand washing steps recommended by the World Health Organization and on how to wear the facemask as well as the distribution of face masks, soaps and hand sanitizers to the community members.
Other the prominent personalities in the community and SCIN team members present at the event include Ichie Nnaoma Stephen,Ichie Boniface Obodozie, Ichie Anthony Ihediba , Ichie Joseph Emewi among many others.
