Meet Prof Nkwam Uwaoma, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Imo State University,Owerri

Brief Profile of Cornelius Nkwam Uwaoma, PhD, FNPA, FICA, JP.

(Professor of Clinical Psychology & Mental Health)

Prof. Cornelius Nkwam Uwaoma hails from Obokwu Obizi, Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State in South East Nigeria. He holds B.Sc. (Psychology) UNN, M.Sc. (Clinical Psychology) University of Ibadan and PhD (Clinical Psychology) Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the Nigerian Teachers’ Institute, an affiliate of the National Open University, Nigeria.

As an Ordained Pastor, he holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Theology from Faith Bible College and Seminary, Sango Otta. Prof Cornelius Nkwam Uwaoma is a long-standing and seasoned academic, having taught in polytechnics and seminaries before settling at Imo State University, Owerri.

Among the numerous positions he has held include: Head, Behavioural Studies, Pentecostal Seminary, Lagos; Head, Department of Social Sciences, School of General Studies, Federal Polytechnic, Nekede; Head, Department of Psychology, Imo State University, Owerri; Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Imo State University, Owerri and at present, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Imo State University, Owerri.

Prof Uwaoma is External Examiner to many Universities including University of Ibadan, Enugu State University of Science and Technology and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. He is in the editorial boards of several academic peer-review journals including: International Journal of Development Studies, USA; Journal of General Studies, Fed. Poly. Nekede Owerri; Journal of Clinical Psychologists; Journal of Contemporary Social Sciences; and African Journal of Social and Behavioural Sciences.

Nkwam Uwaoma has served in several committees of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede and the Imo State University, Owerri, including: Committee of Deans, IMSU, Owerri; Committee on Centre for Mural and Pre-Degree Studies (CEPS), Admission Committees and other Departmental and Faculty Committees. Prof. Uwaoma has attended several conferences, local and international and has authored over 100 articles published in peer-review journals, as well as book chapters. He has also carried out researches on several burning issues including one on Personality Type, Gender and Age as Factors in Depressed Patients’ Response to Rational Emotive Therapy and Assertiveness Therapy.

He is member of several academic associations including – Fellow, Nigeria Psychological Association; Fellow, Institute of Corporate Administration; Member, Nigerian Association of Clinical Psychologists; Member, Nigerian Association of Consulting Psychologists; and member, Society of Telemedicine and E-health in Nigeria.

Prof Cornelius Nkwam Uwaoma is married with 4 Children.
