The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has detained three officers allegedly involved in Sunday’s shooting at Shagamu interchange, Ogun State, that led to the death of one Godwin Agada Onoja.
The spokeman of the service, Joseph Attah, in a statement on Sunday described the deceased as a “water fetcher” and a good Samaritan who assist the operatives to fetch water. The statement had generated heated argument from members of the public.
Following the public outcry, the Comptroller-General of Customs, retired Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali, had reportedly ordered the arrest and detention of the officers allegedly involved in the incident. The investigation panel headed by the Zonal Coordinator Zone A, ACG Kaycee Ekekezie had subsequently quizzed three of the officers after which he ordered that they should be detained.
Attah in another statement, yesterday, said the panel could not immediately conclude the investigation because the officer (ASCI Destiny Onebamho) whose riffle discharged is presently receiving medical attention as a result of attack on him following the shooting incident.
