UNICEF: Distance Threatens Children’s Education

Army Children’s Special Primary School which has a population of over 1000 pupils is located in Janguza Barracks, Kano state.

During a recent visit to the school to conduct an on sight assessment, very conspicuous among the plethora of challenges facing the children is the issue of distance.

The Head Teacher, Hajia Aruria, who spoke to journalists stated that distance is one of the greatest challenges facing pupils in the school.

“The distance from their homes to the school is very far, let’s say 30 or more minutes. Just few of the students have bicycle, so most of them trek daily.

The distance which is like Janguza to Kabuga is why most children are not attending school especially the little ones”.

The risk of trekking and riding bicycles on daily basis to the school children are enormous. They are in dire need of School Buses to help ease their daily stress and improve their punctuality to school.
