40-year-old Mom shares Her inspiring story; advocates for Vitiligo

I am 40 years old a mother of three.

I am sister,a friend,a leader and a mother. But people mostly see the vitiligo I have first.

I live in Anderson,Indiana. I developed  vitiligo in 5th grade and it was the worst time of my life.In fact I was in love with playing sports but my make up would come off so I stopped.

It affected me and my whole life to the point that I did want to end it,commit suicide but I am still here.

Been without my makeup 11 months now and that is  the best thing I have ever done.I did learn to love and accept myself.

I wish I would have learnt to love myself before it is better  late than never.I thanks God for my  children and my family for the support they have offered me.

Now I advocate for Vitiligo rights  plus I am  part of a beautiful group called “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made Community Group” where I am the Vice President.

We rally to try bring awareness so others can hopefully get help because everybody cannot deal with it.We try to redefine beauty.

Beauty to me is learning to love who you are and accept who you are and by doing that you will find out the true beauty that is on the inside and  will always reflect on the outside.

Beauty in the eye of the beholder. I wish people like me can learn to love themselves.

Vitiligo is a condition where the areas of your skin lose its normal pigment.

It affects 1% of the world population. The cause is not known fully yet.It can be inherited in some cases.

70% of people in the world carry the gene but don’t know about.
